International Monarch Monitoring Blitz
The International Monarch Monitoring Blitz invites community scientists from across North America to come together with the shared goal of helping to protect and conserve the beloved and emblematic monarch butterfly. Data collected by volunteers each year support trinational efforts to better understand the monarch butterfly’s breeding productivity, range, and timing in North America.
Join this year’s International Monarch Monitoring Blitz from 26 July to 4 August 2024!
To take part in the Blitz, please share your observations of a monarch egg, caterpillar, and/or adult or milkweed to the Project: Western Monarch Milkweed Mapper it is being monitored by the Xerces Society.
The iNaturalist platform is recommended as it is accessible to everyone and can be used to obtain an understanding of monarch movement and numbers in a local area over time. Observers are told "Don't Worry if it is Blurry" because even a blurry photo of a monarch provides adequate proof of sighting and also records the embedded time/date and GPS coordinates.
