The Cross Marin Trail was once a railroad — the North Pacific Coast Railroad, then the North Pacific Coast Railroad, and finally the Northwestern Pacific Railroad, which ran from Sausalito to Cazadero from 1874 to 1930’s carrying redwood lumber, local dairy and agricultural products, and passengers.

The trail is divided into two sections separated by Taylor-Park Road. One section is in Samuel P. Taylor Park in Lagunitas, the other is in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). This page refers to the GGNRA trail.

The Cross Marin is a popular bike trail for families since it’s a flat, easy ride. It’s a lovely, mostly shaded ride or hike through the bay, oak, bigleaf maple, and fir trees. Combine it with the Jewell Trail for a 4.8 mile out-and-back hike.
