Scalloped Potatoes
5 lbs. large potatoes (about 6)
Salt and pepper
1 1/2 cups whipping cream or half and half
2 tablespoons butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
1-2 cups gruyere or parmesan cheese
Butter a shallow 2-3 quart pan or baking dish. Peel 6 large potatoes (about 5 lbs.) and thinly slice. Overlap slices in pan, making level. Sprinkle potatoes with salt and pepper. Combine 1 ½ cups whipping cream or half and half with 2 T. melted butter and 2 cloves minced or pressed garlic; pour over potatoes. Bake uncovered at 450 degrees until browned and tender, about 45 min. Sprinkle 1-2 c. cheese (gruyere and parmesan work well) over potatoes and bake until cheese melts, about 8-10 min. longer.
